Writer’s/Director’s Note: “When not writing comedy, I typically write about my fears. During a run-through of the teleplay-reading for ”Paulie Walnuts Is My Barber,” and witnessing the actors breathe life into its characters, it dawned on me; this time around, I wrote about my demons. With that startling thought, I began to hope for closure.”
Paulie Walnuts is My Barber (A Teleplay)
Frankie, a street wise West-Village rocker, was rescued from certain demise under Atlantic City’s Boardwalk, by the aging wannabe Rat-Packer and semi-celebrity lounge singer, Jackie Palermo. Back in New York City, in his Hell’s Kitchen wannabe wiseguy Social Club, Frankie has found “safe-harbor” with Jack and his Goodfella-like throwbacks. Well-loved and accepted by all, but smothered by their overprotective Patriarchal Dominance, she decides, on the eve of Jack’s big show-biz- comeback, to move-on and say goodbye. Frankie realizes that she must walk as far away from Jack, and his overbearing crew, before it becomes too late for her to run.
